The Vietnamese Professor Who Advised Japan<\/strong>\u00a0goverment<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

It was a March afternoon in Hanoi, the kind where the sunlight drips slowly over the city\u2019s old buildings, and the air hums with the restless sound of motorbikes. Through the narrow window of a small caf\u00e9, the dust in the air floated lazily, like fragments of some forgotten memory.<\/p>\n

Nam and Kitaro sat at their usual corner table. Two cups of coffee steamed quietly between them, their aroma mixing with the faint scent of rain that had fallen earlier.<\/p>\n

Nam placed a folded newspaper on the table, running his fingers along its edge as if the paper itself held a secret.
\n\u201cKitaro, have you ever heard of Professor Tran Van Tho?\u201d His voice carried the weight of something worth remembering.<\/p>\n

Kitaro frowned slightly, cupping his coffee as if to keep the warmth from escaping.
\n\u201cNo\u2026 Who is he?\u201d<\/p>\n

Nam began. Born in 1949 in Quang Nam, he left for Japan in 1968. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Hitotsubashi University, worked at the Japan Center for Economic Research, taught at Obirin University, and from 2000 became Professor of Economics at Waseda University \u2014 where, in spring, the courtyard turns into a sea of pink petals.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s lived in Japan for over fifty years,\u201d Nam said. \u201cBut in 1990, he was invited to join the Prime Minister\u2019s Economic Advisory Council \u2014 one of the first three foreigners ever to do so. He served for nearly a decade, advising different prime ministers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kitaro looked out the window. The light outside shimmered faintly on the asphalt.
\n\u201cLike a bridge between two countries,\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n

Nam nodded. \u201cIn 2018, the Japanese government awarded him the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. But what I admire most is that he founded the Vietnam Research Institute at Waseda, sending countless young dreams across the sea.\u201d<\/p>\n
