Lately, Nam had gotten Kitaro addicted to a song.
\nC\u00f3 ch\u00e0ng trai vi\u1ebft l\u00ean c\u00e2y\u2026\u00a0Even without words, the melody stayed in the mind, moving quietly, like the sound of a river you hear while lying in bed.<\/p>\n

He remembered a day at the Aichi library. On the far end of the foreign books section, he\u2019d found M\u1eaft bi\u1ebfc\u00a0and I Saw Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass\u00a0by Nguy\u1ec5n Nh\u1eadt \u00c1nh. When he touched the spine, it carried a faint scent of nostalgia. How many Vietnamese books have made it into Japanese?\u00a0The question drifted in, uninvited.<\/p>\n

\u201cKitaro,\u201d Nam said, \u201cdo you know any Vietnamese books translated into Japanese?\u201d<\/p>\n

Kitaro let his gaze wander for a moment before taking a sip of coffee.
\n\u201cWell\u2026 The Tale of Ki\u1ec1u\u00a0by Nguy\u1ec5n Du. Komatsu Kiyoshi translated it long ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nam nodded.
\n\u201cThat one\u2019s like a monument of Vietnamese literature. Japanese scholars have loved it for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a short silence, Kitaro said,
