Aeon and the Journey of Japanese Goods to Vietnam<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The morning light cut across the caf\u00e9 window at an angle, dusting the table with a faint golden hue. Outside, the small canal near Celadon City shimmered in a way that reminded me of ripples on a bowl of warm miso soup. Nam and Kitaro sat facing each other, their coffee cooling slowly between them.<\/p>\n

\u201cKitaro, do you remember the first time I took you to Aeon T\u00e2n Ph\u00fa?\u201d Nam stirred his cup absentmindedly.
\n\u201cOf course,\u201d Kitaro nodded. \u201cJanuary 11th, 2014. The first Aeon Mall in Vietnam.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fifty thousand square meters. Fifteen hundred staff. The air was bright and orderly, the way a fresh page feels before the first pen stroke. It was bigger than the Aeon near Nam\u2019s place in Japan\u2014strangely larger, almost like a dream outgrowing its original home.<\/p>\n

\u201cAeon isn\u2019t just a place to sell things,\u201d Kitaro said.
\n\u201cThey brought over the Japanese way\u2014cleanliness, convenience, the quiet bow that follows you until you\u2019re almost out of sight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nam thought back to visits to Binh Duong, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and the most recent in Hue in the autumn of 2024. Each time, Japanese mandarins glowing in orange crates, steaming ramen, and elegant home goods seemed to have settled into Vietnamese life as naturally as the morning market\u2019s hum.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to bring furikake from Japan,\u201d Nam smiled. \u201cNow I can buy it here, with Vietnamese on the label.\u201d
\n\u201cThat\u2019s localization,\u201d Kitaro shrugged. \u201cThey\u2019re even exporting the other way now. I saw Japanese sake from Hue on Aeon\u2019s shelves last week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nam leaned back, half-joking. \u201cMaybe I should go back to my hometown, grow lettuce, and sell it in Japan. I hear in winter they can\u2019t grow it there. Who knows, I might even export.\u201d
